The Patriot Learning Pod is now open in the Pilot House on the Fairfax Campus.

Registration is open for the Patriot Learning Pod, a proctored, self-study learning environment for the children of ��AV faculty and staff at the Pilot House.

“We are excited that we can provide this opportunity to our working parents,” said Buz Grover, associate director of business services at Mason. “This is a safe place for students do their virtual schoolwork while their parents work at the Fairfax Campus.”

There are 20 seats available for students age 6-12. The program provides flexibility for parents to sign up for select mornings, afternoons, or both, or a full-week option.

Social distancing measures will be in place and masks will be worn at all times except when actively eating or drinking. Children may bring lunch that does not require refrigeration.

Staff are being recruited and may include students from the College of Education and Human Development where their work at the Patriot Learning Pod can serve as a part of coursework.

If demand warrants, additional locations may be added.

There is a one-time $30 application fee due along with required forms.

Morning or afternoon sessions are $15 each; full-day reservations are $30. A 10% discount is available for booking 10 sessions or for those enrolling multiple children.

Also, with the promo code PLP_EARLY, parents can save 10% for paid sessions in the first two weeks. The code must be used by Feb. 6.

As with all in-person activities on campus, students in the program will need to have a green response to the Mason COVID Health Check to attend.

��AV is establishing the Patriot Learning Pod, a proctored self-study learning environment for children of faculty and staff. The Patriot Learning Pod will provide a proctored environment where children can complete their virtual schoolwork while parents come to work at the Fairfax Campus. The pod will be for children ages 6-12.

Parents who have interest in the Patriot Learning Pod should fill out this survey, which is open through Friday, Jan. 8. The survey is the preliminary application for the Patriot Learning Pod, but it does not guarantee enrollment, which is expected to use a lottery structure if needed. If an employee’s child is admitted, their space will not be secured until the parent completes additional registration forms, and submits payment. Information about these forms, and payment will be sent in January.

Employees who are not ready to apply for the learning pod but might be interested in the future are encouraged to fill out the survey to help anticipate demand. This will so enable them stay on the mailing list for future updates.

Mason is hiring an assistant director, a manager and room proctors for the Patriot Learning Pod. Jobs are posted at jobs.gmu.edu. At least one year of experience with elementary school-age children is required for the proctor positions, with coursework in early childhood education preferred.

The assistant director position requires at least three years of experience working with elementary school children, as well as relevant graduate-level college coursework in early childhood education or child development. The part-time pod manager position also requires a minimum of three years of experience working with elementary school children, with relevant college coursework or equivalent experience in early childhood education or child development preferred.
