AV’s Office of the Provost is hosting the Mason , a monthly forum to showcase exemplary real-world research and scholarship that takes place every day on AV campuses.
The first event this semester features Jagadish Shukla, Distinguished University Professor and managing director of the Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere Studies, who will address “Climate Change: Science, Politics and Ethics.”
Shukla will talk about the physical science of climate change, as well as the many social, economic, ethical, political, and social justice challenges it presents. There are reasons to be hopeful about climate solutions, he said.
“What we do in the next few decades will determine which planet we will leave to our children,” he said. “If we act decisively and dramatically to achieve net zero emissions by mid-century, we still have a chance to avoid climate change’s most catastrophic impacts"
The Mason Vision Series will be livestreamed through at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27. Individuals will have the opportunity to participate and engage in the discussion by submitting questions via email (GMUProv@gmu.edu) or Twitter by using #VisionSeriesMason. To RSVP, .
