Biography
Holger Dannenberg's studies聽in the molecular biomedicine program at the University of Bonn in Bonn, Germany taught him聽the scientific basis of medicine and provided him聽with an understanding of disease mechanisms. As a student, his聽interest in neuroscience and immunology led him聽to pursue his diploma thesis on studying microglia and their role in Alzheimer鈥檚 disease. Dannenberg聽continued this inquiry in his PhD聽thesis in Experimental Epileptology and Cognition Research in Bonn, Germany studying neuronal ensembles, neural engrams, and their modulation by acetylcholine in-vivo. After finishing his聽PhD聽thesis, he聽joined the laboratory of Michael E. Hasselmo in Boston, Massachusetts,聽where he continued experimental and computational work on the cholinergic role in memory. In 2021, Dannenberg聽joined the Department聽of Bioengineering and Interdisciplinary Program in Neuroscience as an assistant professor. His聽lab investigates the mechanisms and functions underlying memory formation and memory-guided navigation, focusing on the septohippocampal brain circuitry.
