Biography
Jinwei Ye leads the Imaging and Vision Lab in the Department of Computer Science. Ye's research focuses on developing next-generation computational cameras and displays with unprecedented capacities, such as high speed, high dynamic range, 3D acquisitions or display. It aims to design and develop cameras and displays with transforming capacities that benefit society and humanity. For example, her team makes cameras that can directly capture 3D or see under low light or rainy/snowy conditions. These research products can be used for many applications in computer vision, robotics, medical imaging, mechanical engineering, and digital media.
She highly prioritizes technology transfer and has participated in the NSF I-Corps program to explore the commercialization path for a 3D scanner developed in her lab. Through the program, her team has interviewed many potential partners in the industry (including Apple, Meta, 3M, and Bosch) and obtained valuable insights into their challenges.
Before coming to George Mason, she was an associate professor in the division of computer science and engineering at Louisiana State University.
