Biography
Dr. Mira Yang聽earned her D.M.A. Degree at The Catholic University of America, her M.M. from Peabody Conservatory, and B.M. from Ewha Womans University. She studied at Der Hochschule Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She also attended Altenburg Academy in Germany; Societa dei Concerti in Italy; AIMS in Graz, Austria; the Minnesota Opera Center; Dicapo Opera and the Shaker Mountain Festival.
Dr. Yang has performed in Europe and Asia in addition to the Lincoln Center, Alice Tully Hall; San Francisco Concerti Orchestra; Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall; The Kennedy Center, Terrace Theater; and the White House Christmas Concert. She worked with the Washington Opera and the Washington Concert Opera. She also worked with Pala Association for the musical theater repertoires. She appeared in many leading roles with regional opera companies.聽 She has performed Donna Anna (Don Giovanni), Mimi (La Boheme), Liu (Trandott), Madama Butterfly (Madama Butterfly), Violetta (La Traviata), Lucia (Lucia di Lammemoor), Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera), Blonchen (Abduction from the Seraglio), Queen of the Night (Magic Flute), Lakme (Lakme), Adina (L鈥橢llisir d鈥橝more), Zerbinetta (Ariadne auf Naxos), Papagena (Magic Flute), Norina (Don Pasquale), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Gilda (Rigoletto), Micaela (Carmen), Juliette (Romeo et Juliette), and Euridice (Orfeo ed Euridice), and Libby (Blue Margaritas), in the world premiere of the work by Mr. Roger Trefousse.聽 She also appeared, in the title role, in the World Premiere of the opera 鈥淟ang Ying鈥 at the Kennedy Center.
She won the 1998 San Francisco Concerti International Vocal Competition, 1996 Sarage Foundation Career Grant, and Center for Contemporary Opera鈥檚 International Opera Singers Competition in 1991, and the 1990 Korea Foundation Award. She served Maryland State Arts Council Panelist in many years and member of the Federal Asian/Pacific American Council. She has been an Adjunct Professor at American University and voice faculty at the Catholic University of America. She is the president of the Asian American Music Society and Artistic Director for the Bethesda Summer Music Festival. She is the Students Voice Competition Chair and Washington International Competition Trustee for the Friday Morning Music Club, and annual Asian American Music Society鈥榮 International Music Competition chair as well as other many International Voice Competitions.
Dr. Yang taught at the JCC (Jewish Community Center) school of music in Rockville, MD,聽 the Musical Theater Center from 2004 to 2010, and the Potomac School in McLean.聽 She is member of the NATS (National Association of Teachers of Singing), NOA (National Opera Association), and CMS (College Music Society).
Currently, she is professor of voice in the school of music at the 亚洲AV and Community Advisory Board member for the Kennedy Center.
