Biography

Paul Cassens is a principal dancer with the D.C. Casineros, aÌýrole which has given him the opportunity to perform, teach,Ìýand choreograph with the company throughoutÌýthe United States and abroad.ÌýLike many of his CasinerosÌýfamily, Paul was introduced to Cuban music, dance, andÌýculture by Jim Lepore at ÑÇÖÞAV.ÌýInÌý2018 the group was invited to give a concert at theÌýKennedy Center as part of their Artes de Cuba festival,Ìýwhich was streamed multiple times on the island. AÌýfrequent traveler to Cuba, Paul has had the opportunity toÌýperform there multiple times since his first trip in 2012.Ìý In addition to his responsibilities with the Casineros,ÌýPaul is an instructor with Azucar, the GMU Salsa Club -Ìýwhere he was first introduced to Rueda de Casino byÌýDigna Rodriguez, and faculty in the School of Dance where he teaches World Dance courses and is a percussionist.Ìý With a background in music, Paul received his BA fromÌýÑÇÖÞAV studying under John KilkennyÌýand Ken Harbison, and pursued graduate studies at theÌýUniversity of Utah.
