Mason-Led System Supports Crops and Environment

Body

With support from the National Science Foundation鈥檚 Convergence Accelerator, a Mason team is designing a CropSmart Digital Twin鈥攁 public-facing decision support system that provides the crop farming industry with real-time data and optimal decision advice. The team鈥檚 goal is to help increase U.S. agricultural production by 40 percent while also cutting the country鈥檚 environmental footprint in half by 2050.聽

Liping Di, director of Mason鈥檚 , leads the multidisciplinary research team building scientific data modeling tools to take the guesswork out of crop management decisions. Di will work with researchers from the University of Nebraska鈥揕incoln, Kansas State University, Purdue University, University Corporation for Atmospheric Research, and Mississippi State University, as well as end users from the U.S. Department of Agriculture and farms in the Midwest.
