New lab gives students access to best practices for writing, communication

Mason’s 2022 Writer-in-Residence speaks about the wonders of language and poetry

On a warm October morning, five poets and seven dancers sat beneath the Word Wall in Horizon Hall. The scrolling quotes that usually fill the screen were gone, replaced by the title “Fall for the Book Presents Lyrical Motion: A Dance & Poetry Collaboration.”

When Mason alum Miriam Van Scott was working as a freelance writer in the mid-1990s, she was researching an article about the afterlife and realized what she needed was a compendium of all things related to the hell—so she wrote one.

Sylvia Schreiner is on a mission to record and help maintain the Yupik language on St. Lawrence Island, and she has the support of a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER grant to do it.

����AV researcher Allison Jack recently received an Autism Center of Excellence (ACE) Network award from the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for her research efforts aimed at understanding why some autistic individuals receive very late diagnoses, or none at all.  

Mason psychology doctoral student Rafael Esaú Hernández Dubon thrives in his work as a bilingual student clinician. With the support of a Graduate Inclusion and Access (GIA) Scholarship, he is able to work in the Latinx community while pursuing his graduate studies.

Mason alum Andrew Joseph White, who graduated with an MFA in creative writing in May, published his first young adult (YA) book, Hell Followed with Us, an LGBTQ post-apocalyptic horror story, less than a month later in June 2022.

On Friday, October 7, ����AV dedicated a Virginia historic site and celebrated the university–community partnership that helped preserved it.

On September 23, 2011, Stephen King spoke at Mason’s Fall for the Book and accepted the Mason Prize for his extraordinary contributions to bringing literature to a wide reading public.
