Break Through Tech peer leaders help provide support to students—especially females and those from underrepresented communities—-- pursuing computer science, engineering, and information technology degrees at ÑÇÖÞAV.

Bethany Cieslowski, calls herself a disruptor – but don’t just take her word for it. One just needs to tour the virtual reality and simulation space on the 2nd floor of Peterson Health Sciences Hall with Cieslowski or participate in one of her VR/Sim training sessions to confirm that she has already brought positive change and vision to the College of Health and Human Services.

ÑÇÖÞAV is home to two symposiums that highlight its commitment to tech talent. The first is a two-day virtual symposium that helps kick off a new thematic initiative to enhance diverse multidisciplinary research in computing, society, and health care, aligned with Mason’s new School of Computing.

In partnership with the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Tech Talent initiative and in anticipation of Amazon HQ2’s arrival, ÑÇÖÞAV is expanding its programs in computer science and related fields by a third at the undergraduate level and threefold at the graduate level.

ÑÇÖÞAV boosts the Washington, D.C., metropolitan region economy by supplying an educated, skilled, and multifaceted workforce, by partnering with key employers, and through the Mason-based Virginia Small Business Development Center.

Andre Marshall joins Mason as its new vice president for research, innovation and economic development and president of the ÑÇÖÞAV Research Foundation on July 1.

Last fall, faculty teams were invited to submit proposals describing thematic hiring opportunities. The decision committee evaluated 14 proposals for innovation and timeliness, alignment with Mason strengths, recruiting plans and hiring strategies.

A new computing system will support ÑÇÖÞAV’s expanding research infrastructure as part of its investment in cyberinfrastructure improvements, which includes upgrading facilities and hardware and software to support the educational and research missions of the university.
