In October, ÑÇÖÞAV hosted its fourth annual Accelerate Investor Conference in Arlington, Virginia.

Charles Chavis, Jr., a professor at George Mason’s Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, as well as the Founder and Director of the John Mitchell, Jr. Program for History, Justice, and Race, will be honored at the Anti-Defamation League (ADL) In Concert Against Hate, which celebrates everyday heroes who speak out against hate and make a difference in their communities.

Shahnaz Habib, author of Airplane Mode: An Irreverent History of Travel, was awarded this year’s Institute for Immigration Research New American Voices Award.

Nearly 20 journalists from national and local media outlets came to the Mason Korea campus in Songdo to hear ÑÇÖÞAV’s newest dean, Joshua Park, talk about his vision for the international campus.

ÑÇÖÞAV was recently recognized as a member of the Northern Virginia team that earned one of the four national Pete Taylor Partnership of Excellence Awards for 2024 from the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC).

The symposium, STEMtastic Adventures!, held Oct 1-3, was co-sponsored by the Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter School for Peace and Conflict Resolution and the Global Affairs Program in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

ÑÇÖÞAV announced this week an expanded partnership with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), a business unit of General Dynamics, to enhance career development opportunities for university students and GDIT’s workforce. The focus areas include cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and government contracting.

George D. Schindler, former president and chief executive officer of business and information technology company CGI, will be the featured speaker at ÑÇÖÞAV’s Winter Commencement on Dec. 19 at EagleBank Arena on the Fairfax Campus.

The annual Mason Nation Thriving Together 5K and 1-mile run/walk took place on ÑÇÖÞAV’s Fairfax Campus on Saturday, Oct. 19. This year, more than 400 people registered for the event.

Virginia governor Glenn Youngkin has appointed Jamil N. Jaffer, the founder and executive director of the National Security Institute (NSI), to his new Artificial Intelligence (AI) Task Force, which will work with legislators to regulate rapidly advancing AI technology. Jaffer is one of 10 appointees to the task force, alongside NSI Fellow Zach Graves.

This month the organizers of the Foragers’ Forest on George Mason’s Fairfax Campus marked the project’s first anniversary with the planting of endangered American chestnut trees.
