College of Engineering and Computing (CEC) Professor Janis Terpenny has joined the National Science Foundation Division of Civil, Mechanical and Manufacturing Innovation (CMMI) where she will serve in the expert role and lead in the creation of CMMI’s Manufacturing System Integration program.

Gurdip Singh has been named as the new divisional dean for the School of Computing and professor in the College of Engineering and Computing.

Ken Ball, the Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing at Mason, became the new Chair of the Engineering Deans Council earlier this summer.

Sid Dewberry, whose advocacy and generosity impacted countless students, and helped transform the entire ÑÇÖÞAV community, died July 16. He was 94.

Research Interests: Functional data analysis, computational statistics, Gaussian process modeling, models for compositional data analysis.

Research Interests: Orthogonal arrays, crossover designs, optimal design of experiments, and subdata selection methods.

Kathryn Laskey, professor of Systems Engineering and Operations Research, retires after 32 years at Mason. She reflects on her time at Mason, from when it was a little-known school to the thriving, globally credited research university it is today.

Last spring the college offered an interactive, discussion-based course that investigated the history of contributions by engineers marginalized by race or gender and studied cases where a lack of diversity contributed to adverse engineering consequences. 

Beginning this year, the number of awards have been increased for full-time faculty members. The faculty cited for 2022 come from five Mason schools.

In April, Mason professor Mohamed Gebril took a team of students to Commonwealth Cyber Initiative's BattleDrones Competition.
